Until a recent change in policy from Standards Australia, HL7 Australia had an agreement and worked closely with them to produce Australian Implementation Standards.  The results of that co-operation are still available free at the site originally sponsored by the Commonwealth http://www.e-health.standards.org.au/

International

HL7 and its members provide a framework (and related standards) for the exchange, integration, sharing, and retrieval of electronic health information. These standards define how information is packaged and communicated from one party to another, setting the language, structure and data types required for seamless integration between systems. HL7 standards support clinical practice and the management, delivery, and evaluation of health services, and are recognized as the most commonly used in the world.

FHIR®

FHIR® – Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (hl7.org/fhir) – is a next generation standards framework created by HL7. FHIR® combines the best features of HL7's V2, V3 and CDA product lines while leveraging the latest web standards and applying a tight focus on implementability.

HL7 V2

HL7 Version 2 (V2) messaging standard has been the workhorse of healthcare information exchange since 1987. 

Broadly implemented V2 has provided a common understanding and framework for healthcare information exchange for over 25 years. 

CDA

HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) supports a general framework for representing healthcare data as documents.

HL7 V3

HL7 V3 implements standardised representation of health data based on the HL7 V3 Reference Information Model. These comprehensively cover healthcare domains with harmonisation of concepts across healthcare data.

Education

A core activity of HL7 Australia is education in the use of HL7 standards and methods. Education events are held around Australia. In addition HL7 International holds regular conferences and meetings around the world. You don't have to be a member to participate in these but there is generally a significant discount if you are.
